Question: What mission, purpose, and core values will animate and unify your school? Consider how these might build the engagement of students and adults, rally the support of your community, and drive the development of your school.
Idea Tree will be a community hub that welcomes businesses, residents, and parents to interact with students to mutually benefit the school and community. Even as a new high school, we will be firmly rooted and supported by the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, the second largest high school district in California and a leader in public education since 1911. The district currently provides stability and sustainability while championing creativity and we have the full support of our Superintendent and District Administration.
Today’s society demands more training and education than what accompanies a traditional diploma. Our faculty’s role will be to facilitate thought and prepare graduates to be successful in the post-high school world of college and career. Idea Tree will provide competitive advantages for students and opportunities to think, learn, and solve authentic problems in an environment that embraces ingenuity and collaboration.
Multi-disciplinary projects will result in portfolios that highlight demonstrated proficiency in standards-aligned, rigorous work. Challenges will be assessed by a juried panel of community partners and instructors to ensure alignment with rigorous content standards. Students will graduate ready to take credit-bearing coursework in college, be qualified for advanced training, or be prepared for immediate employment in their chosen career field.
If we expect tomorrow’s adults to solve our world’s problems, we must equip them with the necessary skills and experiences. Idea Tree students will choose not only their course of study, but also how they can demonstrate proficiency. They prepare to solve society’s problems by actually solving society’s problems, and our mission enables students to work both independently and on teams to solve one challenge each quarter. Technology and a creative use of time and space are paramount and instructors’ duties are multifaceted as they seamlessly transition from the role of advisor, guide, instructor.
