Why Choose Us?

Idea Tree is dedicated to giving students choice and a voice over what they learn, how they learn, when they learn, and how they present their results. Thank you to the XQ team for opening up the conversation and pushing us to truly #ReThinkHighSchool.

Here are some highlights as to why we are different and why you should choose us:
  • Idea Tree is supported by the Chaffey Joint Union High School District (CJUHSD), including our superintendent and the district administration.
  • Idea Tree has secured a fully operational facility that can host our opening enrollment of 300 students and has the ability to meet growing enrollment needs.
  • Idea Tree will be a public high school in the second largest high school district in the state of California.
  • Idea Tree will attract students from at least fourteen comprehensive high schools and multiple alternative schools within a twenty mile radius.
  • Idea Tree will have a strong representation of local and global business partners.
  • Community members and instructors will collaborate to design project-based challenges, which are the foundation of the multi-disciplinary curriculum.
  • Students will work hand-in-hand with business and community partners to design and complete proposed challenges.
  • Students will work independently — and on teams — to accomplish a series of agreed upon goals throughout the duration of each quarterly challenge.
  • Students will work with faculty and counselors to design a schedule that allows them to meet the demands of their challenge, eliminating the need for traditional periods or bells.
  • Students will complete weekly health journals with individual goals in physical fitness and overall healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Students will receive support through daily check-ins with a faculty advisor and weekly meetings with credentialed instructors to ensure a progression toward mastery of rigorous content standards.
  • Students will present their results to a juried panel at the conclusion of the challenge. This panel will consist of instructors, community members, and business partners.
  • Students will compete for local and global internship and externship opportunities.
  • Mastery of standards-based skills will be determined by credentialed instructors.
  • Graduates will meet the minimum University of California admissions requirements.
  • Students will create a portfolio demonstrating the unique skills and experiences they have acquired.
  • Instructors will work collaboratively to ensure learning experiences and simultaneously facilitate completion of challenges and content-area mastery.
  • Instructors will counsel students in how to select challenges and how to navigate the restructured classroom: time management, self-driven learning, and personal accountability.
  • Instructors will have flexibility in their schedule to target specific groups of students who need intervention, enhancement, review, and/or additional instruction.
  • Instructors will be given opportunities for professional development by attending conferences and workshops that promote the educational growth of all high school students.
Idea Tree draws inspiration from unique school models such as The Mountaintop Project at Lehigh University, Iowa BIG, and others around the country who are rethinking education.
